Coney Island on a Cold Winter Day:
I was cleaning out my back up hard drives, and found this photo that I shot at Coney Island with my Leica M9 and 35 Summicron Version 4 or as some may affectionately call it, “King of Bokeh”. Regrettably, there’s none of that famous bokeh since I believe that this photo was shot at F16. All you get is tack sharpness :). Simple adjustments were done in Adobe Camera Raw, and then I used Nik Software Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert it to black and white. A lot of detail from a lens that’s 20 to 30 years old…One more reason to by a Leica M9: You can use lenses that are decades old with very satisfying results.
I shot this on a cold, cooooold morning in Coney Island unlike how the weather has been recently here in New York. My friend and I were the only crazy people out at Coney Island beach. I remember having absolutely no feeling in my hands. I really like taking photos around Coney Island and Brighton Beach but unfortunately, I never really go much. It’s just a little far from the city, which is why I don’t go much. If you’re not from New York, and you’re just visiting, you should check these areas out. There’s some cool, and unique photo opportunities that aren’t you’re typical New York City shots (Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc.). I guess that’s what I love about New York. Every area is different in New York. You can sometimes feel like you’re in a completely different world. Very cool. Anyway, I will be posting some reviews in the near future so stay tuned. I’ll also have some projects that I will be posting. For now, hope you enjoy the photo, and have a great Sunday.
