Leica NJ Will Replace My Leica M9 Sensor Under Warranty:
As I said yesterday, I brought my Leica M9 in to my local dealer (Bergen County Camera) to have him bring it over to Leica NJ for service. Yesterday, I discovered that I have a cracked sensor. My dealer has very good relations with Leica, and he’s always willing to help. He called Leica, and it turns out that sensors are backordered. I might not even see my M9 till June! But Leica did say that it’s covered under warranty (even though my camera is out of warranty), and since it is a repair under warranty, it takes priority. My guess is that maybe they have sensors on the side for customers who get them replaced under warranty. My dealer told me someone brought in a Leica M9 because he scratched the sensor by cleaning it, and it cost him $2,000 so I am extremely grateful for both my dealer’s help, and Leica for replacing it under warranty.
In the mean time, I guess I’m going to be shooting with my Fuji X100, and hopefully with the new Fuji X-Pro1 whenever that decides to come in. I will also continue shooting film. I will definitely miss my M9. It’s simply like no other camera. It’s so simple and straightforward lacking any of the unnecessary gizmos that most camera manufacturers put in their cameras. Plus, the images that are produced from the M9 are breathtaking. I will definitely miss using the lenses as well but again, if you are listening, thank you Leica for replacing my sensor under warranty. I’m just hoping my M9 will come back soon.
You know, this is not the first time that I have dealt with Leica NJ. I’ve dealt with them before for various other services, and I have to say, they really do offer excellent service. That’s actually part of the reason for why I stick with Leica for all these years. It’s really nice to know that they stand behind their cameras, whether it be a Leica M9 or a 60 year old M3. Yes, they brought life back to my old M3, which was stored in the basement of my Great Uncle’s house for decades. To this day, my M3 works perfectly. If you ever get a chance to visit Leica NJ, you’ll find that everyone is extremely friendly, personal, and eager to help.
What else? Well, besides that I got to play with the new Canon 5D Mark III. Talk about a different experience from a Leica M9. It’s definitely a nice camera. Anyway, I will try to finish another post with some photos today so please stay tuned. Thanks for stopping by!
