Weekly Portrait Set: The Sigma 85mm f1.4 and Leica SL2
I thought I’d post a portrait set today from the time I had the the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art lens on loan. This is one of my favorite lenses, and it’s something that I sooo wish I did not have to send back. In fact, I consider it the best lens to come out for 2020, and least from the lenses I used. I’ll be posting a review of it soon (I’m hoping next week), and I have a lot of pictures from it. Plus, I think I’ll post a comparison between this lens and my own APO-Summicron-SL 90mm ASPH as well.
So, these photos here were actually taken on Thanksgiving Day. I had the 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art lens for like one more day, and while I did get quite a few shots for my review, I wanted more portraits. It’s a portrait lens, right? It’s definitely not easy shooting portraits during this time but I do meet up with a few people I know really well. So, Michelle (Instagram) came over to my roof, and we started snapping away.

The weather was just dreary, and terrible. There were actually moments when it rained quite a bit. I also did not have any of my lighting gear with me, so it wasn’t the easiest time to shoot. Still, Michelle was a trooper as always, and I was determined to get something, since I had to return the lens.

The camera I used with the Sigma 85mm f1.4 was my Leica SL2. This here is such a beautiful combo to shoot with. They are a match made in heaven. As you know, I love my SL2, and the Sigma 85mm f1.4 is just about perfect. I can not believe how good it is, and best of all, it’s not outrageously priced. It’s also compact considering what it is, and balances beautifully on the SL2. I probably don’t need to say this but the bokeh is absolutely incredible as well :).

As some of you know, I switch between Photoshop CC and Capture One when I process my RAW files. However, I’ve been using mainly Capture One 21 lately, which is how I processed these photos. I then brought them into Photoshop CC for a bit of retouching.
So, as I said earlier, I will be posting my 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art lens review probably next week. I should’ve posted it a while ago. If any of you have questions about the Sigma 85mm f1.4, let me know below. I’ll be glad to answer them. Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and I hope everyone is well!
