Ricoh GR IIIx Digital Camera Announced:
Ricoh has announced the new GR IIIx. I’ve always wanted to get one of these GRs in to review but for some reason, every time a new version is released, I’m either busy or I forget. This might be the time I finally get a review sample given how popular they are, and cool I think they are in general. If you’re interested, you can pre-order it through the link below:

There are also new accessories like a tele-conversion lens and a viewfinder just to name a couple, which can be found in the link below:

Some of the specs of the GR IIIx, and photos are below:
- A newly designed 26.1mm lens that gives you a 40mm equivalent in 35mm terms. There’s also a 2 stop ND filter.
- An updated 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor paired with the new GR Engine 6 producing high-resolution 14-bit DNG or jpegs.
- Hybrid AF system combines a contrast, and phase-detection AF.
- 3-Axis Shake Reduction System giving its user up to 4 stops of compensation.
- There’s in-camera RAW editing that lets you do adjusting parameters like recoding size, aspect ratio, white balance, and exposure compensation, all without a PC. The GR IIIx also lets you keep the adjusted parameters after the initial RAW development making it possible to make small re-adjustments of the already developed photo.
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: wireless functions for easy pairing with mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
I owned a GR 2 for a few months and hated it as I learned that I cannot enjoy a camera without a viewfinder. The image files are amazing but it did not work for me. I also hate taking photos with my iphone other than quick photos of things for memory when I shop.
If you like using a phone then you will love this camera.
I would even be happy if it just had a clear glass viewfinder versus nothing.
Hi Brian,
I completely get it. I want a camera with a viewfinder too. This new model will have an external OVF option though, which is good :). Also, I do the same with my phone haha. I never use it to take photos. Not that it isn’t good or anything…it just doesn’t interest me much.
Best,
Patrick
I had purchased the external ovf to salvage purchase but then it was no longer compact with the “frankenfinder”. Hence, I put the whole kit up for adoption. A professional photographer in the UK bought it from me and within two weeks captured a contest winning image. She was so thankful for the pristine like new camera. It just shows that we need various choices. It is a great camera for the right person.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I was never a huge fan of the external EVF or even OVF for the Ms. The external viewfinders ruin the design for me. As for various choices, that’s why we have so many :). Truth is, a lot of cameras these days will give us excellent results. Just have to find the right one that fits our needs and wants.
