A Visit to Cape May New Jersey

A Visit to Cape May New Jersey:

Hey everyone, apologies for being away for so long.  I’ve been really busy with shooting, and I took a few days off to drive down to Cape May in New Jersey for some rest and relaxation.  I took with me the Leica M11 and Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 Nokton along with the Fuji X-T3, and just the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4.  I haven’t had much time since I came back, so I thought I’d share with you some of the photos I took with my Fuji set up first, and tell you a little about my trip.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review!  If it helped, please consider purchasing from any of the links mentioned in this post, which in turn, helps support this site.  I get a small commission but it will not cost you anything extra.  Thank you!

The summer has been very busy for me, and I pinched a nerve in back pretty badly near the end of it (which is why I haven’t posted as much lately), so I was really looking forward to having some time to myself, and to just chill for a few days.  I did some fishing in Cape May, New Jersey a while back, and always thought it was a cool place to visit.  I thought it would be cool to book a place by the beach right after Labor Day as to avoid huge crowds.  For those who don’t know, Cape May is right at the southern end of New Jersey.

So, I was there for five days, and did a bunch of stuff.  For one, I definitely relaxed :).  Since it was right after Labor Day, the beaches were quieter, and it was just nice sitting around there all day.  I saw someone with a surf rod, and I was thinking to myself, why didn’t I think of bringing one along with me lol?  I also walked around the town a lot, and ate tons of seafood.  I checked out a World War II fort on the beach, and also climbed up a lighthouse.  The weather was beautiful except for one day when it was raining quite a lot, so I went to the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum.  I don’t know anything about planes but I’ve always been interested in some of the older types.

I also took my first car ferry ever, which was really cool to me.  I have a friend in Delaware that I’ve been meaning to visit.  This was the perfect time.  Driving might’ve been slightly quicker considering where he lives in Delaware but I just wanted to experience driving my car onto a ferry, and taking a ride out into the ocean :).

Since this was more of a time off than a photo trip, I kept things light.  I chose the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4 R LM OIS lens because, in terms of range, it covers a lot, the image quality is decent, I have image stabilization, and it’s compact.  I bought this lens when it was first released many years ago with the X-E1 kit.  It is still one of my favorites, and still one of my most used Fuji lenses.

I also took along the Leica M11 because…well…I had it with me, and why not ;)?  It’s light, easy to carry around, and it’s fun to use.  I was an M user for many years until the SL came out.  I am a very happy SL user but I have to say, the M11 is, so far, my favorite digital M.  It’s really been a pleasure using it.  It’s been out for a while now…I am thinking of maybe writing up a long term review of it.  Lens of choice was the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f`1.4 II MC.  This is such a fun 35mm lens to use, and worth every penny.  For those interested, you are welcomed to read my review of it.

As I said, this post has photos that were all taken with just the X-T3 and the XF 18-55mm.  I didn’t go too crazy on the edits or anything.  I kept things simple.  I haven’t even looked at what I shot with the M11 yet but if I find anything cool that isn’t just a repeat of what I have shown all of you here, I will post it up later.

I really enjoyed this trip to Cape May, and the good thing is, it really isn’t that far from New York City.  I think the next time I go though, I will concentrate more on photography.  There are some absolutely beautiful areas to photograph there.  I kind of regret not taking along my tripod this time around as I think I would’ve gotten some cool night shots.

Anyway, I’m back, so expect reviews coming soon.  I hope everyone is doing well, and thanks for stopping by!

Vacation snaps. Sometimes the best shots of all on a trip. Casual, playful, noting serious.
These shots all say you were having a grand time just enjoying life a little more slowly than usual.
Sorry about the back… I feel your pain.

      Hi Gary!

yes, I agree. Sometimes, a break from all the technical, etc. is what one needs :).

As for my back, thanks! It’s still not 100% but I guess good enough to get moving again lol. I hope things are well with you! Always great to hear from you!

      Best,

      Patrick
