A Visit to Sandy Hook in New Jersey:
Hey everyone. So the other day, I went out scouting a bit for a future photo shoot I wanted to do. I checked out Sandy Hook in New Jersey. It’s a large park area with beaches, and it’s actually very close to New York City. There was also an awesome bike trail that went through the entire area, so I decided to grab a couple of family members, and throw my bike in the trunk. It was mostly scouting, and hanging out but I did grab a few shots with my Fuji X-T3.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post! If it helped, please consider purchasing from any of the links mentioned in this post, which in turn, helps support this site. I get a small commission but it will not cost you anything extra. Thank you!
So, I was mainly following the bike trail, and whenever there was an area where there was potential for a future shoot, I would check it out. I heard from several models I work with that Sandy Hook is a nice area to shoot. I had some time, and thought, I might as well check it out.
↑ There a lot of old forts or military buildings.
↑ More of the same stuff.
↑ Thought the colors were nice :).
Gear wise, I wanted to be light, since I’d be biking a lot, once I get there. As I mentioned, I brought along my X-T3, and just the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4 R LM OIS lens. I figure it had a nice range but at the same time, it was compact enough where I could bring a very small bag.
↑ I thought this might be kind of cool for a background for a shoot.
↑ These looked mostly abandoned.
↑ During the pandemic, I bought myself a folding bike, specifically a Brompton. Turns out, this has been very useful.
I was primarily there to check out the beaches maybe for a beach shoot. But there are other cool areas there as well. There are some historic military buildings there along with a former United States Life-Saving Service station building. There’s also the oldest surviving lighthouse in the U.S.
↑ Here’s a nice beach area.
↑ As you can see, this area is very close to New York City, which is out there in this photo.
↑ Here’s the Sandy Hook Lighthouse.
Overall, it was quite a lot of fun. I spent most of the day there. I’m sure there are better photos out there but I thought I’d just share a few here to show you what I was up to there. I think I will try out a shoot there before it gets colder.
As always, thanks for stopping by! New reviews are coming for Leica L mount, M mount, and Fujifilm X Series. Stay tuned!
