Leica Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 f5-6.3 Announced:

Leica has announced something that might be a great choice for those wanting a telephoto for the SL system.  The Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 f5-6.3 been announced today.  Along with the telephoto zoom is a 1.4x Extender as well.   With the extender, you can extend the focal length to 560mm.  They are available for pre-order below:

What do all of you think of this?  I’ve always said that Leica has the SL system now, so they should produce longer telephotos for people that need them.  I think this is a great direction.  Sigma has definitely been doing this for the L mount system for a while now, as some of you know.  They do have something similar focal length wise, which I have reviewed for those interested.  The link to the review is here.    The price for the Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 is $2,195, which isn’t too crazy for Leica either.  the 1.4x Extender is priced at $875.  As always, thanks for stopping by!  There are some specs below that I’ve listed:

  • Optical image stabilization system compensates for up to 4 stops of camera shake.
  • Detachable Arca-type-compatible tripod base.
  • Fast internal focusing.
  • Weather-sealed design with AquaDura coating.
