My First Roll of Film From Ilford Lab U.S.A.:

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to post something quick.  I recently sent in a roll of Fuji Neopan 400 to the Ilford Lab in California.  I mentioned them a few months ago, and I’ve been wanting to try them out for a long time.  But to be honest, film took a backseat to digital for a while, so I never had the chance to finish the roll of Neopan in my Leica M6.  I kept putting it off but I finally decided to just process it to see what I got. Billingham Hadley Pro Review:

There are plenty of decent camera bags out there nowadays.  Domke, Artisan & Artist, and Think Tank are just a few companies that come to my mind that make great camera bags but there are plenty more.  Billingham is another company that has been making great bags as well, and one series that Billingham has been producing for quite some time is the Hadley range, which is one of their most popular series of bags for several reasons: the Hadley range is made up of a bunch of bags that are extremely dependable, perfectly sized, comfortable, and built to last.  They make various models but one of their most popular bags in this series is the Billingham Hadley Pro (B&H Photo/Amazon). Expert Shield Screen Protectors Review:

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a company called Expert Shield to see if I wanted to write up a review about their screen protectors.  Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity because who doesn’t want a good screen protector for their often times, very expensive camera?  To me, a screen protector is a must have accessory because it’s a very cheap, and a very effective way of protecting the LCD screen of your camera.  Let’s be honest; who wants to see a big scratch on the LCD screen?  If you don’t care, the next person who you decide to sell it to might, which means a scratched screen could really affect your resale value badly.  Some of you might be thinking that all plastic screen protectors are generally the same but Expert Shield disagrees.  To prove it, Ed at Expert Shield was kind enough to send me three screen protectors to try out: One for my Fuji X-E1, one for a Sony RX100, and one for my iPhone 5. Self Portrait mit Leica M3
Me being a Hypocrite with my Leica M3

I am writing this post because I am getting a feeling that photography is becoming more and more about the gear, and less and less about the photographs. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about…

Don’t get me wrong, it’s quite amazing when new cameras come out with never-before-seen features, and they blow everybody’s mind but that’s not really what photography is about, is it?

The first thing you need to do, is look through the viewfinder. If your camera doesn’t have a viewfinder, go and buy a new camera 😉

Looking through the viewfinder and then squeezing the shutter release button at the perfect moment is the only thing you should really be thinking about. Lenses, cameras, sensors, film, tripods, filters, lens hoods, flashes and all the rest are a distant second.

No amount of gear will make you take better pictures. The only way to improve your photography is to improve yourself as a human being. Develop your imagination, look at images from the masters, read, and most importantly, get out there and shoot!

But whatever you do, don’t just shoot…Think!  [continue reading…]

Lance String Loop Wrist Strap Review:

Hey everyone!  I have another strap review for you all today.  This time it’s not an Artisan & Artist strap but something a bit easier on the wallet! :): Here is the String Loop Wrist strap by Lance Camera Straps.  I heard of these straps before but I did a little more research on them after someone commented on my Artisan & Artist ACAM-301 Woven Silk Cord Review, and mentioned that he uses the Lance neck straps.  Curiosity got the better of me, which lead me to check out their site, and wow, I was pleasantly surprised.  This wrist strap that got my attention only costs $25 with $3 shipping!  So, I decided to buy it, and see what it’s all about.
