Sigma 100-400mm f5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary Lens Review L Mount:
I’ve been reviewing a lot more Sigma lenses lately because quite frankly, I love using them, and I haven’t found one yet that I don’t like. This time, I wanted to change it up a bit. Instead of reviewing some of the more common focal lengths like a 35mm or a 50mm, I decided to go for something a little out of the ordinary for me, at least: I decided to review the 100-400mm f5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary lens. As a Leica SL and now an SL2 user, I felt like this would be a good lens to consider, at least, on paper. I say this because first off, there aren’t that many L mount autofocus long range zooms out yet. Second, this is a relatively compact lens considering it’s focal length range. Third, the price is decent. Fourth, being that I live in NYC, and I don’t usually use something like this, and I thought it would be fun to review :). So, let’s take a closer look at this lens by first talking about the build and ergonomics. [continue reading…]
Weekly Portrait Post: Sunset With The Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm:
Hey everyone. Hope all of you enjoyed the holidays. I have a bunch of stuff coming up but wanted to start off the new year with a post from a shoot I did before the corona virus cases started going up again. I was shooting these images around sunset. I consider this part of my weekly portrait posts, which I don’t really do weekly anymore. Since the pandemic, it’s just been difficult to be that consistent with shoots, so I’ll periodically put up a few of these types of posts whenever I am able to get some new content as opposed to being consistent weekly (although I will try my best to keep them weekly). So, let’s get on with the photos, and in them is Michelle (Instagram), who if you follow me on my Instagram, probably needs no introduction, since I believe I’ve posted her the most, since she was the first person I basically started shooting with :). Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens First Impressions L Mount:
I have another Sigma lens that I’ve been testing lately that I want to talk about, and this is actually the last of the three APS-C lenses for L mount currently out that I have in my hands: The Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for L mount. For those interested, I’ve already posted the review of the 56mm f1.4, and you can also read my first impressions of the 16mm f1.4. Getting back to the 30mm f1.4, it’s a 45mm equivalent focal length, which is like a normal lens making it great for a variety of subjects. I’ve been testing this on the Leica CL, and here’s what I think of it so far. [continue reading…]
Sigma 56mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens Review L Mount:
The Leica CL is one of my favorite APS-C mirrorless cameras but truthfully, I wish there were more native lenses. I don’t think I am alone in this wish. Yes, there are M mount lenses, and full frame L mount lenses. Those are great alternatives, of course. However, I don’t always want to rely on manual focus lenses, and full frame L mount lenses are often huge on the CL, especially ones made by Leica. The good news is Sigma has released three APS-C lenses that come in L mount. I’ve had the pleasure of using all three, and right now, I’ll be reviewing the short tele: the 56mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens. Here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art Lens First Impressions L Mount:
Sigma recently released the 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art lens but unlike their previous version, this one is designed specifically for mirrorless cameras. In other words, it’s more manageable in terms of ergonomics and size. I’ve been excited to give this lens a thorough test ever since I heard about it, and I was fortunate enough to get a loaner to try with my Leica SL2. Here are my first impressions of it.
