Leica Sofort Instant Film Camera Review:

Instant film cameras are becoming more and more popular because quite frankly, they are a lot of fun to use.  In addition to the fun, shooting with one of these lo-fi film cameras is a nice break from the technical perfection of digital.  There are actually quite a few manufacturers that are currently producing instant film cameras like Fuji, for instance.  Now, Leica have also entered this market with their new Sofort.  The Sofort not only shoots with the popular Instax film, it is also currently the cheapest Leica that you can buy by a far margin.  So, let’s take a closer look at the Sofort, and see what this camera is really about.   [continue reading…]

Oberwerth Heidelberg Camera Bag Review:

Finding the perfect camera bag isn’t an easy task.  A lot of thought goes into it because at least for me, a camera bag I usually purchase is something I plan on keeping for a very long time.  The appearance is important but it definitely goes deeper than just the superficial.  Since it is something I’m going to carry quite a lot, comfort and functionality are extremely important as well.  Being well-made is also essential because I’m usually pretty rough on my bags, and I expect a lot from them.  My bags have to last.   You can find these types of bags in many different price ranges but if you’re looking for something high end, you most likely have come across manufacturers like Billingham and Fogg.  Both have been in the industry for a very long time making superb bags but now we have a newcomer to the high end bag market.  Oberwerth, which was established in 2014, have been producing bags that are handmade in Germany.  Their catch phrase is literally, “Because ‘good’ just isn’t good enough”.  Their aim is to basically create bags of the “highest standards and uncompromising quality”.  Well, these are pretty strong words, and I was able to find out for myself if they ring true because Oberwerth was kind enough to send me the Heidelberg for review purposes.  While the Heidelberg is a great size bag for my Leica SL, I had adequate time to try this bag with several different systems, and this is what I concluded. Leica Sofort Instant Camera First Impressions:

Today I bring you Leica’s new Sofort, which is not only currently the cheapest Leica camera that you can purchase new but it also shoots film.  I recently received the Sofort as a loaner, and first off, let me say one thing: At first, I couldn’t believe it when I first heard that Leica was releasing an instant film camera.  But it does use Instax Mini film, which is actually quite popular among a lot of people, and you know what?  I’m actually having a lot of fun with it. Oberwerth Heidelberg Camera Bag First Impressions:

For those who are still waiting for my 50mm Summilux-SL review, I’m still working on it.  I’m spending a little more time on this lens than usual because I want to get the most out of it before I post anything from it.  But it’ll be posted soon along with a few other things.  Actually today, I received something really cool in the mail.  The kind folks at Oberwerth, which is a camera bag company based in Germany, sent me the Heidelberg to review, and it’s such a beautifully made bag that I couldn’t resist posting a few pics of it.  Just to be clear, this post is not a review; I will write up a full fledged review for this bag soon. Canon EOS M5 Mirrorless Camera Review:

We all know Canon as a producer of some of the most popular DSLRs currently out.  But personally, I’ve felt they’ve had some catching up to do when it comes to mirrorless.  Companies like Fuji, Sony, and Olympus, just to name a few, have dominated the mirrorless market with some superb entries.  I currently own a Fuji X-T2, and I’ve also been an X Series user since the original X100.  I can tell you that they have definitely come a long way since that first X100.  Quite frankly, the EOS M series never really appealed to me much but now, Canon has released the new EOS M5.  From the specs alone, this definitely seems to be a viable competitor to what’s currently out on the market, so I got my hands on one to see how it actually performs in practice.  Here’s what I think of it.
