Fujifilm XF 23mm f2 R WR Lens First Impressions:
When I reviewed the Fuji XF 23mm f1.4 (review here), one of the things that I mentioned was that while it is a fantastic optic, it’s rather large to use as an everyday lens. I thought a great alternative was for Fuji to create an f2 version, and so did many others. Truthfully, for a 35mm equivalent lens, you don’t always need that extra stop. In fact, I usually like to stop it down to around f4 to f8. I’d like the f1.4 aperture for certain times but I personally wouldn’t use it enough to justify not only the extra cost but more importantly, the size. Well, as we all know, Fuji have recently released the XF 23mm f2 R WR lens. Here are my first impressions. [continue reading…]
Fuji X-T2 Portraits with the XF 56mm APD in Dumbo:
I hurt my back over the weekend, (slept the wrong way, and pinched a nerve), which plain out sucks not only because it obviously hurts but also because I can’t really go out to take pics with all the cool stuff I’m currently reviewing, so I thought I’d post some photos that I took with my Fuji X-T2 and my XF 56mm APD right before I pinched my nerve :). I’m still trying out my X-T2, and so far, I love it even more :). It’s just a plain out awesome camera because it does so many things so well. If you want more info, check out my review. It was one of the longest reviews I’ve ever wrote. Anyway, I’m finding every opportunity to use it, and when one of my friends came over to visit last weekend, I thought it would be a great time to shoot some portraits. [continue reading…]
Sigma sd Quattro Mirrorless Camera Review:
I have a confession: I review a lot of different cameras but the Sigma sd Quattro has been one camera that I’ve particularly had my eye on for quite some time. The reason for this is in many ways, it really stands out from the rest of the mirrorless world. Not only does it have, shall we say, unique aesthetics, it also has Sigma’s Foveon sensor technology. Plus, at $799, the price is quite reasonable when compared to the competition. They’ll even throw in a 30mm f1.4 lens in a kit for $999. Of course, like many other Sigma cameras, the sd Quattro also comes with its fair share of quirks. In many ways, you’ll really have to work for your image but in the end, it is most definitely worth it. [continue reading…]
Fuji X-T2 Review: Redefining the X-T Series of Cameras:
I’ve owned and reviewed almost every X Series camera, and pound for pound, at least for me, I felt the X-T1 was the best out of the bunch. Many must have felt the same way because it was a huge hit for Fuji. To top it off, the X-T1 only improved with time thanks to the numerous, and useful firmware updates by Fuji. Even to this day, it’s still a camera to be reckoned with in my opinion. I did review the X-Pro2 when it was first released, and at the time, I assumed a lot of the tech from that camera was going to find its way into the new X-T2. The funny thing is, even with all the new tech, I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be when the X-T2 was officially announced. That’s because the X-T1 had pretty much everything that I was looking for in a mirrorless camera. I was even okay with the 16 MP sensor vs. the X-Pro2’s 24 MP. I was really happy with the camera, and I couldn’t imagine Fuji improving it that much more where I would notice significant differences, especially since the X-T2 is a few hundred dollars more than its predecessor. Well, I’ve been using the X-T2 since its release date, and I have to say, I am mighty impressed. [continue reading…]

Fuji X-T2 12,800 High ISO Example:
Right now, I’m reviewing all my Fuji X-T2 photos to see which ones I am using for my review (which I’m writing right now), and I just wanted to post a quick example of a photo taken at 12,800 ISO with the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4 R LM OIS lens. I know there are cameras out there that are designed specifically for shooting at high ISO but with that said, I personally think this is pretty impressive. The noise is really well controlled, and color desaturation is kept at a minimum. This is a raw file but I didn’t have much time to do much work to it. Even without that much work, I think it’s perfectly useable. I am extremely happy with results like this. [continue reading…]
