Leica X Typ 113 Review:
The ever growing fixed prime lens compact camera scene is filled with many competitors these days all fighting for a piece of the pie. Manufacturers like Fuji, Sony, Nikon, and Sigma just to name a few, each have their own unique take on what a high quality non-interchangeable lens compact camera should be. To stay competitive, Leica updated their X line by introducing the new Leica X Typ 113 (B&H Photo/Amazon). They have kept the main characteristics and formula that have made the predecessors of the X line successful, such as, simple and direct layout of the controls but they’ve also brought along some much needed serious upgrades like the new Summilux lens to help it differentiate itself and therefore, stay competitive with the rest of the pack. The NY Auto Show 2015 With the Leica M 240:
While I’ve found driving in New York City a chore, I do love cars, and if I lived somewhere less congested, I would probably be driving a lot more. I missed the NY Auto Show last year but I managed to go to this year’s on Friday. However, I did go to the NY Auto Show two years ago, and you can see the photos from that time (Part1/Part2/Part3). Luckily it wasn’t so crowded this time, so I was able to comfortably check out some of the latest cars. I even went to Jeep Camp, where they have a mini obstacle set up for Jeeps to go through, which was quite fun. [continue reading…]
Hasselblad 503CW Millennium Camera:
I’m sure I mentioned several times here (I know I’ve spoken to a few of you through email) that I used to shoot with a Mamiya 6 and 6MF and how much I missed them. There is just something about medium format film that I love and no matter how technologically advanced digital gets over the years, I still can’t seem to shake the medium format film bug. I don’t necessarily think one is better than the other; I just think that each format or/and medium are unique and should be equally appreciated for their qualities and strengths. Well, I finally couldn’t take it anymore, so I “bit the bullet” as they say; for those who are not on my Instagram account, I bought an absolutely mint condition Hasselblad 503CW Millennium camera with matching 80mm CFE Planar lens. Back From Tokyo Japan:
I got back from Japan on Saturday night, and I miss it like crazy. I’ve been to Japan several times before. There was even a time when I stayed in Tokyo for one whole summer to visit a former girlfriend. I remember leaving at the end of the summer and feeling sad that I would be leaving what I consider as one of the best cities in the world. Seriously, it is such an amazing place and Tokyo is so full of life. I remember telling myself that I would try anything…a study abroad program even (I was in college at the time) just to spend more time in Japan. But you know how it is; things change and life leads you to other things, other opportunities, other obstacles, and sometimes you just have to go with it. Well, I think from this point on, I will be seriously leaving the option of one day being able to live over there. Maybe something like half a year here and half a year there…who knows. Photo Gear I’m Bringing With Me to Japan:
In a few hours, I will be on a plane to Japan. I haven’t been there in over a decade, so I’m interested to see what’s new, and I can’t wait to see what has changed. I also can’t wait to eat the food there because it is quite good. Lastly, I will definitely be checking out the camera stores just to see some of those old film collectibles. I will be taking a lot of pictures when I’m there but I also want to enjoy my visit. I know I will be doing a lot of walking, so I don’t want to be burdened with too much gear. [continue reading…]
