Holiday Train Show at The New York Botanical Garden:
I think the best time to be in New York City is during Christmas Season. I lived here all of my life, and it’s my favorite time of the year. Holiday decorations adorn nearly every part of the city making things feel very festive, especially if there’s also a little snow on the ground. There are also some great events that occur during this time of year. For instance, I went to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx the other day to see the annual Holiday Train Show. Note from Admin: Thinking of adding a 90mm to your Fuji X Series system? Well, you’re in luck today because we have an excellent two part GUEST ARTICLE written by Jed Orme. He shares with us his experience using M mount lenses on his Fuji X-E2. Here in part one, he gives us his analysis of one of my personal favorites: the Leica 90mm F2.8 Tele-Elmarit. Enjoy!
A Tale of Two M Lenses (Part 1 of 2 Parts):
This is the first part of a two-part article discussing my experience with two Leica M rangefinder type lenses that I recently acquired.
In one of our many email exchanges, Patrick asked me if I would be willing to provide a guest contribution to his quite excellent blog. First let me state that he & I actually have never even met, my living about as far away from where he lives as is possible while still residing in the same country. We have, however, for quite some time now shared our mutual interest in rangefinders, including the varied lens options available. (He also has integrated some Fuji X system bodies & lenses into his work, & that is what first caught my attention.) And I should acknowledge straightaway that I possess no Leica branded cameras. Rather I have attempted to mimic the RF system using a Fuji X-E2. For lenses, I use a fairly small kit, consisting of a Fuji XF 14mm, a Fuji XF 35mm, a Zeiss 50mm Planar, & finally a Leica 90mm Tele-Elmarit. With respect to these last two prime lenses (the Leica & the Zeiss), Patrick thought it might be interesting to get my views as to how they have integrated into my Fuji world. The larger Fuji universe also has excellent lens choices in these same focal lengths, had I been so inclined to use them. So initially I might mention certain of my reasons for not employing the Fuji counterparts to these two adapted primes. [continue reading…]

Leica X Typ 113 First Look:
I thought I’d post a quick look at the Leica X Typ 113 before I post my review at a later date. First off, it’s always great to try out a new Leica even if it’s not mine, especially since I’ve been a big fan of the X Series for a while now. I know the X Series isn’t perfect; for instance, an internal viewfinder would be nice. But there are a lot of great things about this particular series I think are worth mentioning like the image quality, the solid build, and the sheer simplicity of its design. [continue reading…]

One Pic From Dumbo…Cold Weather Finally Here:
It’s going to be a short post for today. I was out the other night in an attempt to take some photos but I wasn’t as productive as I thought I would be. It could’ve been because I was just doing a little exploring or the cold weather but it was most likely a combination of both. I generally love the cold but I have to admit that I was taken by surprise with the recent drop in temps and the rain. Actually, it was really the wind that was brutal. Still, I figured I would post something even if it’s just one picture from that night. I was exploring Brooklyn and ended up in Dumbo.
I had my Leica M 240 and 18mm Super Elmar with me. As some of you know, I’ve been shooting a lot with this combination for the past couple of months and I can’t seem to shake it. I quite enjoy how these two work together.
Speaking of Leica, I’ll be writing up an X Typ 113 review soon. I’m actually very excited about this because I enjoyed the X1 a lot. I owned the X100 at the time the X1 was the current X camera, and while I did enjoy it, I have to admit that I was always a little jealous of my brother in-law who bought the X1 :). The X100 was okay minus the bugs (the X1 had it’s own issues as well) but I always liked what came out of the X1.
I’ll post some pics of the new Leica X Typ 113 soon. Thanks for stopping by!

↑ The Harbor, Dubai.
Note from Admin: Today, we have an excellent GUEST POST written by Markus Gerhards. The urban landscape photos that accompany his article are awesome. They are unique and very imaginative. He started a new site, http://gerhardsphoto.com/, and I urge all of you to check out! Enjoy!
Creative Color Adjustments for Urban Landscapes by Markus Gerhards:
I spent a week in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in September 2014. If you love architecture, especially skyscrapers, you will love these cities.
To get a flight and hotel is not a problem at all and it is not overly expensive as well. It is slightly more expensive when you decide to visit the place in winter, the best time to be there. This is because it gets very hot in summer time. So hot that people avoid being outside at day time and even at night most restaurants, where its nice to sit outside in winter, are closed due to the heat in summer. [continue reading…]
