New Fuji Firmware For the X-E1 Version 1.04 and X-Pro1 Version 2.03:
Fuji users, there is new firmware for your X-Pro1 (click here), and X-E1 (click here). But according to some readers on Fujirumors.com, there might be some issues. There are a few who say that while focus may have improved with the XF 35mm, it has slowed down, and become noisier. There are also many who have said that there are no problems whatsoever. I think I’m going to give it a try. Maybe some are forgetting to update the lens as well, so if you decide to update your camera, make sure you also update the XF 35mm lens (click here).
Here’s what Fuji says the firmware is suppose to do:
- Adding the compatibility with “XF14mmF2.8R”.
You will get the full performance of “XF14mmF2.8R”, including Manual Focus function.
- 2.Improvement in performance
- (1)Accuracy of auto focus performance has been much improved under a various shooting condition.
Shooting with XF35mm lens, Shooting for the target with relatively high frequency, One-push AF by pressing AE-L/AF-L button,
- <Notice>
- To enable more accurate AF performance with XF35mm lens, please update the firmware of your Fujinon XF35mm lens at the same time. Firmware version must be Ver 2.02 or later.
- (2)Improvement of unexpected pixels recorded in the top far-left taken with XF18-55mm Lens under the condition of middle range focal length.
If any of you have already tried the new Fuji firmware, please feel free to comment below, and tell us about your experience. I’m actually in the process of updating both my X-Pro1 and X-E1 now, since I’m going out all day to shoot. It would be a great way to test the new firmware, and I’ll be sure to mention my experiences with it here. Take care everyone!

Lance String Loop Wrist Strap Review:
Hey everyone! I have another strap review for you all today. This time it’s not an Artisan & Artist strap but something a bit easier on the wallet! :): Here is the String Loop Wrist strap by Lance Camera Straps. I heard of these straps before but I did a little more research on them after someone commented on my Artisan & Artist ACAM-301 Woven Silk Cord Review, and mentioned that he uses the Lance neck straps. Curiosity got the better of me, which lead me to check out their site, and wow, I was pleasantly surprised. This wrist strap that got my attention only costs $25 with $3 shipping! So, I decided to buy it, and see what it’s all about. [continue reading…]

Fuji XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R Lens Vs. Fuji XF 18mm F2.0 R Lens:
The new Fuji XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R lens is a great lens, and for the most part, it’s been well received. It performs well optically, it’s easy to use, it’s small, and it focuses pretty quick. With the release of this new zoom, I’m pretty sure many of you are wondering if you even need the Fuji primes. Well, maybe I wouldn’t go that far since I love primes :). But who knows, maybe you’re starting out, and you want to get the most out of your money or if you’re like me, you just want to lighten your bag a bit. [continue reading…]

Photo of the Day: This Time a Photo From the Olympus OM-D:
Happy Friday everyone! I was going to do a comparison post today between the Fuji XF 18-55mm and the XF 18mm but I think I will hold off until this weekend because I’m a bit under the weather, and it is absolutely freezing out right now. I will also be doing comparison tests between the zoom, and the other fixed focal lengths as well. For now, check out this photo from my brother in-law, Justin Watkins. He used an Olympus OM-D with a Panasonic 25mm Summilux ASPH, which is great because it’s something different than the usual Fuji around here :). Nothing wrong with Fuji stuff, I just like this site to be about a variety of photographic equipment, and subjects.
The OM-D was set to 400 ISO, and this was shot at 1/40s wide open. It’s Friday, and I wanted a fun photo so I thought this would be perfect. The subject as you can see is my brother in-law’s golden retriever, Kopi. She is a real character as you all can see :). I hope you all enjoy it. Stay tuned for the comparison tests coming soon, and I will also be reviewing a new strap sometime next week. It would also be great if I can do some sort of comparison test between the X-E1 and the OM-D…hmm…let me see if I can work something out with my brother in-law. He has the 25 Summilux ASPH, and I have the XF 35mm. Both are 50mm equivalents, and both have a wide open aperture of F1.4. It would be a nice comparison. He has the kit zoom too, and so do I for the X-E1. That’ll be a nice comparison as well. Anyway, we will see how that goes. Take care everyone!

Photo of The Day: Shot With The XF 60mm F2.4 R Macro Lens:
Wow, it has been a very cold week in New York! I was going to take pictures today but maybe I will wait a bit :). I usually love going out in the cold but who knows, maybe I’m getting older but being that it’s currently 16° outside here in New York, I thought it would be a perfect day to stay in, and clean up my computer, since I have what seems like an endless amount of junk and photos everywhere. So, I’m deleting, and moving things around, and I run into this photo here, which was shot with the X-Pro1, and XF 60mm F2.4 R Macro lens. What makes this photo so special? Well, nothing really lol. It’s just wow, the XF 60mm is pretty darn good.
I’m almost 100% sure that I’m going to sell this lens because quite frankly, I don’t use it much at all. If I need something like a 90mm, the 55mm focal length on the zoom is long enough for me, and I don’t shoot macro much. Also, while I wish I took more portraits with this lens, for some reason, I always end up using the XF 35mm instead. But this is a nice lens, and I’m tempted not to sell it now. The XF 60mm never gets enough credit in the Fuji XF series line, and sometimes seems to be a bit overshadowed by the XF 35mm. But look at the colors, contrast, and the sharpness. Even the bokeh is nice on this lens, and this isn’t even shot wide open. If anyone is interested, you can check out my XF 60mm F2.4 R macro lens review for more info. Anyway, take care everyone, and for those of you who live in New York, stay warm!
