Nikon Z fc Mirrorless Digital Camera Announced

Nikon Z fc Mirrorless Digital Camera Announced:

The new Nikon Z fc has been announced, and while I’m sure there are people who just aren’t interested, I have to say, I love how it looks, and it’s so compact too!  Check out the photos below, and specifically the one that shows the top plate of the camera (I’m a big fan of how the top plate looks like).  It looks like my grandfather’s old FM2 or something.  You can even get it with the also announced Nikon 28mm f/2.8 NIKKOR Z Lens, which looks like a lens from the film days of Nikon.  The links are below for pre-order or just to look at these items:

My first camera was a Nikon FE and then I later purchased a FM2 for a second body. One with Kodachrome and the other with B&W film. I loved my FM2 and to this day I have fond memories of it. I thought this camera is gorgeous but it needs a number of prime lenses to be available to tempt me. I love the core controls being readily visible and adjustable before I raise the camera to my eye. This camera is perfect for my style of photography.

      Hi Brian,

One of the cameras that I always wanted was an FM2. It’s on my list of cameras to buy one day. I agree about the primes. I said the same thing to a friend of mine earlier. I’m really hoping Nikon starts to push harder with their Z system. It’s a good system with plenty of potential. I’m hoping to still get one of these in to review :).

I’m not a fan of Nikon digital. But this is Beautiful! I have hundreds of vintage film cameras including all of the Nikon 35mm models. I’ve salvaged (yes, even from dumpster diving) and rebuilt if needed. Most still worked – just needed cleaning, new batteries, and a little elbow grease to wake them up again. The old nikons and their manual lenses are works of art (coming from a non-fanboy). And to run across this new homage today (thank you, btw) is a treat. Nikon nailed it with this design – the knobs and buttons, the pleather, the lines! Right on Nikon. I only wish that the retro/homages like this were full frame… and they were truly adaptable to the original full-frame lenses, which give more flavor to the digital captures with their old coatings, imperfections, and feel. And… I know it’s totally citch(?), but a thumbwinder would really be cool… even if it did nothing, the feel and sound is magical to click and wind. Plus it really throws other people off guard. Nevertheless, good for Nikon – this little thing rocks. Cant wait to see and hold one in person. Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Max,

It definitely is beautiful, and no need for thanks :). Glad to post it.

I only hope that this retro theme is just the beginning for Nikon. I would love to see a full frame mirrorless version, and I think it would sell quite well. I would buy one probably :).

Sounds like you have a great collection of film cameras. I love the old film Nikon cameras. One of my dream cameras has always been the FM2. My grandfather had one but it’s been so many years, he doesn’t remember where it is anymore. I would’ve rebuilt it, if needed.

As for the Z fc, I hope to get one soon in to review :). I think it will be a really cool addition to their Z system. Thanks for taking the time out to visit here, and leave a comment. Have a great weekend!

      Best,

      Patrick
