Leica M Typ 240 Review Part 2: Leica EVF2:
I’ve been using the Leica M 240 for quite some time now, and so much of it feels like every other M I’ve used before yet so much also feels completely new. The M 240 has a list of expected upgrades, such as, better high ISO capability, more megapixels, and a better screen. But Leica took it a step further by introducing new features never before seen on an M. Some of these new features include, a CMOS sensor, movie mode, focus peaking, and R-lens compatibility. The other big surprise is the ability for the M to use an electronic viewfinder called the Leica EVF2. [continue reading…]

Leica M Typ 240 Review:
The Leica M, the M10 or the Typ 240 as some call it, is the most anticipated camera for me because I grew up with Leica rangefinders. My interest in Leica started around the age of twelve when my dad gave me an old M3. I don’t think he thought it would have had such a huge impact on me but it obviously did. I went absolutely everywhere with that camera, and I probably shot more with that camera over the years than I ever did with my M9. As the years went by, I dabbled in a bit of medium format. I bought a Mamiya 6, and then 6MF, which are both rangefinders but my heart always lied with Leica M cameras. The M3 left such a huge impression on me that I sold my Mamiya’s, and bought myself an M6TTL. [continue reading…]

First Impressions of the Leica M Type 240:
Hey everyone! What an awesome end of the week it turned out to be lol. Yesterday, I received my new Leica M, and I have been using it quite a bit. First impressions? Man, I actually have a lot to say! I don’t even know where to begin, and I definitely want to save some for the review lol. But overall, first impressions are GREAT!
But on a quick side note, I want to thank Bob at Bergen County Camera for getting me my new Leica M so quickly. I don’t get a single cent for saying this but my family, and I have been buying Leica stuff from him for 30 years now. Why do I continue buying from him, especially if I can get it so easily on the internet? He runs his business old school, so the customer is golden, which is important if you’re shelling out $7,000 for a camera. You want the support with that when something goes wrong, right? The thing is, I’ve seen him giving this same service to people who didn’t even buy equipment from him! These are the kind of camera stores we should be supporting! If you ever need Leica stuff (he is currently fully stocked), call him up…he recently opened a Leica Boutique as well.
So anyway, let’s talk about the Leica M for a bit. I’m just going to blab about the new M in no particular order, and see where it goes. I’m still so excited about it too be honest. Hopefully my sentences will be coherent :). [continue reading…]

The Leica 50 Summilux ASPH vs. The Leica 75 Summilux:
My last post was about my brother in-law’s golden retriever Kopi. There was one pic that had a nice glow to it, and if you look closely, the eye is tack sharp. That photo got me thinking. I shot a similar photo with my 75 Summilux a couple of years ago, and the eye was also tack sharp. The 50 Summilux ASPH is suppose to be the best 50 out there. I’m not doubting that at all but I was just wondering how my recent photo of Kopi with the 50 lux compared to the photo I shot of her with my 75 lux a couple of years ago. [continue reading…]

The Leica 50 Summicron Lens Review:
The 50mm lens is my favorite focal length for the Leica M system, and one of the biggest reasons for this is because of my relationship with the 50 Summicron. When I received my first camera (a Leica M3), this was my first lens (borrowed from my dad), and it was my only lens for many years to come. There was no way that I could afford another Leica lens while in high school, so I made do with only a 50mm. When I went to college, I finally saved up enough money to buy an M6. My lens of choice? Again, it was the 50 Cron. At the time, since I bought my M6 new, this was the only lens that I could afford other than the 50 Elmar. Combine the price with the image quality that the 50 Summicron has to offer, and it’s pretty much a no brainer. [continue reading…]
