Sigma 90mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens Review:
If you were one of the early adopters of L mount like I was, it just wasn’t easy finding lenses that were compact and light. A lot of manufacturers were busy releasing reference level glass with large maximum apertures that were excellent but also big and heavy. If you wanted something more compact, often times, you had to sacrifice autofocus and use an adapter for M mount lenses, for instance. Well, things have definitely changed quite a bit. Take, for instance, Sigma’s I Series lenses. Their maximum apertures are a little smaller but they are also much more compact and light. Furthermore, I’ve tested every one so far, and I can tell you that from my experience, these lenses offer excellent performance as well. Now, they’ve added another one that I think is MUCH needed in the L Mount Alliance, the 90mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens, and it (along with the new 24mm f2 DG DN: review here) has been released today. Thanks to Sigma, I was able to test this lens beforehand, and here’s my full review. [continue reading…]

Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens Review:
If you have an APS-C L mount camera, such as, the Leica CL, and you’re looking for a normal lens that’s around a 50mm equivalent focal length, there are quite a few to choose from. However, if you want one with autofocus that is also compact, the options shrink a bit. One option that you can choose though is the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens. This 45mm equivalent lens has been around in different mounts, and now it’s also in L mount as well. I had a chance to review this lens along with the two other APS-C lenses currently out, which are the 16mm f1.4 (review here) and the 56mm f1.4 (review here). I wrote up a review for each of the other two a while back but for some reason, I never got around to finishing up the review for the 30mm f1.4. So, here’s what I think of the 30mm. Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Review:
If you’re an L mount shooter, there just aren’t many long telephoto lenses out there yet. This especially goes for Leica users. I’ve been using Leica cameras for my entire life, and like most, I was an M user. There aren’t many options in the long telephoto range, which makes sense given an M is a rangefinder. Now, I’m in the SL system, and I’d love to be able to try more longer telephoto lenses. So, I was very excited when I heard news Sigma was coming out with the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports lens for L mount. I rarely get to use these kinds of focal lengths, and I think it would be such a great addition to the L Mount Alliance. The lens would help make it an even more versatile system. So, thanks to the fine folks at Sigma, I was able to test this lens out before it was officially released to see what it was really all about. Here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
Sigma fp L Camera Review: Photographer’s Point of View
A while back, Sigma released their first L mount camera, which was the fp. I reviewed it (review here), and thought it had a lot to offer, especially it being so compact. Recently, Sigma released another model: the fp L. There are some changes but one main difference is that the fp L comes with a 61 megapixel sensor. Being that I’m an L mount user, and I just love cool gear in general, I knew I had to get my hands on this just to see what it was all about. Before I begin, I know that in addition to photography, this camera is also marketed towards videographers. Keep in mind that this review is primarily through a photographer’s perspective. Here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art Lens Review L Mount:
The 24-70mm is one of those must-have lenses for a lot of photographers, and it makes sense, since it covers such a broad range. With just one lens, and especially one with a relatively large fixed maximum aperture, a photographer can cover landscape, street, and even portraiture in many different kind of conditions. So, many manufacturers make zooms in this range, and often times, they are top sellers. One that I was recently able to test was the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art lens. This comes in Sony E mount or Leica L mount, and being that I’m a Leica guy, I used the L mount version. Here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
