A Leica 35 Summicron For Portraits?:
The 35mm focal length is probably the most popular focal length for Leica M’s. There are several reasons for this: a 35mm is wide enough to fit everything in the frame but isn’t completely effected with the negative effects associated with wider angles. Because it is a wide angle, it’s also easier to learn how to pre focus. A 35mm can also focus closer to get that “up close and personal” feel. There are several other reasons for why Leica owners prefer the 35mm as their main focal length but this post is not about that; it’s about using the 35 Summicron (Version 4, IV or 7-element) or as some refer to as the “Bokeh King” to take portraits. (By the way, I will be doing an extensive review of the 35 Summicron Version 4 at a later date. This post is just a sneak peak at what this lens can do). [continue reading…]

Not Even My Leica M9 Can Take Me Out of My Photographic Rut:
Hey everyone, I know I haven’t posted something substantial in quite some time. I’m sorry for that I’ve just been kind of busy with the Thanksgiving Holiday. Plus, I’ve been in kind of a photographic rut…I’ve taken a lot of photos but none that I really like. The great thing about the Leica M9 is that it motivates me to go out and take pics. It’s small, light, and actually a joy to use which makes me take it everywhere. I’m just not finding anything I really want to take pictures of lately. But that will probably change soon since all the Christmas stuff in New York City has finally come out. [continue reading…]

Panasonic LX5 Price Cut Only For Today:
For anyone who is interested, you can find the Panasonic Lumix LX5 for $269 at this link to Amazon! This is not from a third party seller so you can even get free 2 day air shipping on the LX5 if you have Amazon Prime. You bettter hurry because it’s only for today and for this price, I’d be surprised if it didn’t sell out. This is normally mainly a photographic website but $269 is an awesome deal for this camera, which is why I thought I’d let everyone know. Get one for Christmas, get one to throw in the car…who cares? This is a great price for a camera that can shoot RAW, and that comes with an awesome Leica lens. Don’t forget, the list price for the LX5 is normally $499.95 and it usually goes for a street price of $370. $269 is usually in the ball park of a used LX5 but this is new and it’s from Amazon (here is the link), which is a very reputable source! I’m even tempted to buy one even though I don’t need it right now.
For anyone who is thinking about purchasing this camera, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 is essentially a twin to the Leica D-Lux 5. The D-Lux 5 does cost a lot more but it comes with Adobe Lightroom, and a Leica 3 year warranty. However, for $269, the LX5 is totally worth it. I’ve had a Leica D-Lux 2, a D-Lux3, and a D-Lux 4. The D-Lux series are awesome cameras, and this is a great way to get one! Anyway, here is the link to the Panasonic LX5 again at Amazon. And again, I will definitely be posting more photos and reviews soon. I have a 50 Summicron review coming up but I just want to add more photos to it. Don’t forget, the deal for the LX5 is only for today (here’s the link one last time)!
