Leica Summilux-SL 50mm f1.4 ASPH Lens Review:

Before the Summilux-SL 50mm f1.4 ASPH was released, there were just the two zooms for the Leica SL system.  The zooms are superb but if you wanted a prime, your main option was basically to buy an M adapter, so you could use M lenses.  I was an M user at the time but I was at a point where I was seriously considering moving on to another system.  I love Leica products, I was a diehard M user, and I’ve used them for decades.  My path into photography actually started with an M3 and a 50mm Summicron, so my love for Leica runs deep.  But my photography has changed quite a bit; I shoot mostly fashion, portrait, and boudoir now.  Also, focusing fast lenses, especially telephotos with an M just became more difficult for me. Leica SL Shoot: Blinds And Shadows With Lizzi:

This week’s portrait post (not really a portrait, I guess, but you get what I mean) was taken with my Leica SL, and the model was Lizzi (Insta).  This was the first time I met Lizzi but we really clicked.  She’s super fun to shoot with, and we even got some bubble tea in the end, which never hurts :).  Anyway, this was originally a test shoot but we ended up with some great shots.  We did mostly boudoir during this shoot but we also did some shots like these, which are more fashion type. Leica Summarit-M 90mm f2.4 Lens First Impressions:

Leica M gear is definitely not cheap, and for those maybe entering the Leica world for the first time, the Summarit line of lenses are a great way to do so, and to get a more complete system at the start.  While they are still more expensive than say Voigtlander or Zeiss offerings, they are a nice alternative for those who may just want Leica glass to use with their Leica cameras.  Furthermore, you’re still getting Leica quality here.  The glass is excellent.  It’s not as if these lenses are bad in any way.  I’ve always been a fan of the Summarit line of lenses and I’ve tried most but there was always one that I didn’t get a chance to try out, and that’s the Summarit-M 90mm f2.4.  I’ve finally received a review copy, and here’s my first impressions of it. Leica SL Shoot: APO Summicron-SL 90mm ASPH And Tiffany:

In addition to all the reviews, comparisons, and just in general, gear related articles, I’m also going to write up a post with photo sets each week.  I mentioned this a while back before my site went down, so now, I’m going to start.  Why am I doing this?  Well, portrait, fashion and boudoir are what I do when I’m not on this site.  I also believe that while all the technical descriptions in reviews are great, it’s important to also put the gear to good use.  I shoot with my own gear but often times, I will also use the gear I’m reviewing for my own work.  In this way, I can give all of you a more comprehensive review than just something filled with tech specs.  Often times, tech specs just don’t give you the whole picture of how a piece of gear will actually perform.  With that said, I bring you a shoot I did with Tiffany (Instagram). Leica APO-Vario-Elmar-TL 55–135mm f3.5–4.5 ASPH Lens Review:

As some of you know, I’ve been a Leica user for many, many years.  I was solely an M user for decades but now, I am an SL user.  I was speaking to my camera dealer a few days ago, and he had mentioned that it looks like the SL is the camera I’ve used most out of anything he has ever sold me.  This is definitely true.  I shoot quite a bit with my SL; I schedule about two to three shoots per week with it, and most of the times, these shoots are either half day or full.  So, I feel like I have a lot to say about the L mount system in general but the funny thing is, I’ve only posted my APO-Summicron-SL 90mm ASPH review so far.  Well, I’m definitely going to make a bigger effort to include more L mount gear in my blog from this point on, and I’m starting with the APO-Vario-Elmar-TL 55-135mm f3.5-4.5 ASPH.  Since it is an L mount lens, it can be use on the SL.  However, it was originally designed for Leica’s APS-C line of cameras, so I tested this lens with the Leica CL (which is probably the APS-C camera I lust for most right now), and I have to say, the results were surprising to me but in a very good way.
