Leica SL Typ 601 Firmware Update 3.2 Released:

It looks like new firmware is out for the Leica SL.  Link is below:

Firmware Update 3.2

Key improvements are:

  • New menu item added  to Joystick Lock on/off.
  • New power saving mode (on/off) feature allowing the camera to turn off the EVF to save battery power.
  • Support for SF40, the future SF60, and SFC1.
  • New menu item “USB-Mode” allows to use mass storage or PTP USB connection type.
  • Keyboard improvements: Missing brackets for the wifi password input.
  • Keyboard improvements: Blinking cursor during text input.
  • Improved image colour for JPG under some light conditions.
  • Manual colour temperature preset was optimized (Setting changed from 6600K to 6500K).

I can’t wait to get this in my SL.  I may have a couple of shoots booked this coming weekend (still currently reviewing the APO Summicron-SL 90mm), so it’ll give me a great opportunity to try out some of these new features.  I’ll report back, if I encounter any issues.  Thanks for stopping by!

The Gear I’m Bringing to Tokyo Japan:

It’s that time again…vacation time lol.  This time around, I’m going back to Tokyo.  I haven’t been in a few years, and quite frankly, I miss it.  I miss the sounds, the smells, the lights, and the amazing food!  This time around, I am going to try Fugu (puffer fish sushi).  Wish me luck :).  I’m also bringing a couple of things with me to review. Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f1.25 ASPH in Stock at Bergen County Camera

Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f1.25 ASPH in Stock at Bergen County Camera:

So guess what I heard?  I was in Bergen County Camera playing around with the Leica stuff and probably driving Bob (one of the owners) a little crazy when he told me that they are getting a Noctilux-M 75mm f1.25 ASPH some time next week (I know I said actually in stock meaning now but I couldn’t fit that in the title, and it is coming next week).  That’s quite fast but I’ve been buying my Leica stuff from BBC for years, and they generally get the stuff pretty fast.  Just to give you an example: I’ve been shooting with my brand new APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f2 ASPH for almost a month now.  There are a lot of stores that never even got their first copy yet.

Anyway, if you’re at all interested in purchasing a Noctilux-M 75mm f1.25 ASPH or if you have questions about it (Bob is a very nice guy), you can definitely give him a call or even shoot out an email.  The number is (201)-664-4113, and his email can be found on Bergen County Camera’s website.  It’s a Leica Boutique, so they ship everywhere.  I imagine that this is a very, VERY rare lens, and I must confess that I am tempted myself.  I would have to sell my new 90mm though, and I just can’t do that; I love it, and it has autofocus :).  Thanks for stopping by!

Leica SL Typ 601 Firmware Update 3.1 Released

Leica SL Typ 601 Firmware Update 3.1 Released:

For those interested (I am for sure), Leica has released firmware update 3.1 for the Leica SL.  I find this firmware update particularly good because according to Leica, it’ll improve the image quality, and overall color balance of the jpegs.  Most importantly though (at least for me), it’ll improve the autofocus speed, and accuracy of the autofocus position of the Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH lens.  I haven’t tried it yet but you can bet I will right after I finish writing this little post up :).  The link to the firmware update is below:

Firmware Update 3.1

On a side note, I really like what Leica has been doing in terms of the firmware updates for the SL.  Each update has actually been really useful, and makes the camera even better.  I absolutely love my 50mm Summilux-SL.  It’s my favorite lens from any manufacturer.  I was actually okay with the autofocus but hey, I’m not going to complain if Leica can speed it up ;).  So, thanks for stopping by, and for those who own the lens, feel free to drop me a message in the comment section to let me know what you think of the new update.
