Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in Brooklyn With My Fuji X-Pro1 And X100

Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in Brooklyn With My Fuji X-Pro1 And X100:

Hey everyone, what a night!  Hurricane Sandy sure left a mess here in New York!  Some of the roads are just beginning to open up but no trains for quite some time.  The stations are completely flooded!  Mayor Bloomberg said there may be buses tomorrow but they will be limited.  There are people still without power.  Since I couldn’t get into Manhattan, I thought I’d walk around my neighborhood to check out the damage that Hurricane Sandy left here.

Since my M9 is not with me anymore (it’s on consignment for the new Leica M), I decided to walk around with my Fuji X-Pro1 and X100.  I carried my X100 with me because I wanted to use it a bit more before I sell it for the Fuji X-E1.  Here are the photos, I hope you all enjoy them.  I hope everyone is safe here in the East Coast!  Feel free to leave a comment if you live in New York or New Jersey if you have anything to say about Hurricane Sandy (or anyone else 🙂 ).  Take care everyone and stay safe!

↑ A tree with its roots ripped out of the ground taken with the X100.  Amazing what Hurricane Sandy could do…actually any hurricane.

↑ It’s pretty amazing how the concrete surrounding the tree can just tear open like this.  Taken with the X100.

↑ Here’s another view, and look with it did to the lamp post.  Taken with the X-Pro1 and XF 35mm F1.4 R lens.

↑ The Belt Parkway was opened but as you can see, it was near deserted.  Taken with the X100.

Glad that you are okay. Looks like you made the best out of the situation and had some fun taking photos. The power of nature is amazing and scary — all at the same time. I just got my XE1 today, but have yet to really use it. I’m definitely looking forward to the amazing IQ I experienced as an early adopter of the XPro1 — in a smaller and cheaper package. Be safe.

      Hi Armanius,

Thanks for your comment and well wishes! Yeah, the power of nature is pretty amazing, and scary. When I was walking around I was astonished at what Hurricane Sandy left. Big trees completely uprooted, cars crushed, complete subway stations flooded…It’s completely crazy, and the thing is, my neighborhood didn’t even get hit as hard as others. Some of my friends really had it bad. Glad you got the new X-E1. I’m actually a bit jealous of you lol :). I planning on getting one soon when it finally arrives here in the U.S. Feel free to leave me another comment because I’d be really interested to hear what you think of it! Take care!

  • My god look at all the destruction the hurricane caused. Thankfully from the pictures taken the houses were not destroyed.

Proud user of Fuji X100 here. I consider it as my best friend.

      Hi Arham,

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, it caused a lot of destruction but we were luckier than some other parts of NY. A lot of my friends lost power, and some people unfortunately, lost more than just power. Glad to have a proud X100 user here! The X100 is an awesome camera! Thanks for stopping by, and nice blog btw!

  • Makes me think I should get around to posting some damage from the hurricane here in Washington DC done with my XP1 and X100.
