Hello Leica SL:
Last week I actually did it: I traded my M 240 in for a Leica SL. The M system was the only top end Leica system that I used, so in some ways, I felt like I was almost cheating on the it but so far, the SL has surpassed my expectations, and trust me, they were very high considering the price of this camera has me essentially eating ramen for the next year ;). It’s so quick, it’s so confident, it’s built better than anything I’ve ever used, it’ll give me the Leica rendering that I love, and not only will I be able to use my M lenses, I will now also be able to use autofocus Leica lenses. I love it.
Speaking of, I also bought the M adapter, the 24-90mm, and pre-ordered the 50mm Summilux-SL ASPH. Yes, the lens is huge but the M version is amazing, and still my favorite lens from any system. The SL version might even be a bit better, and with the added benefit of autofocus. As for reviewing these Leica products, I was planning on writing a big SL review at a later date maybe when I get the 50mm Lux but seeing as I actually received a few emails asking me about the camera, I’m not going to wait for the Lux, and I will probably try to write my review up a lot sooner. There seems to be a lot of interest in SL, and that’s great. I also write a 24-90mm review as well.
I just wanted to keep all of you updated. I will try to post some pics from the SL soon. I actually have a few but I haven’t had a chance to even look through my memory cards. I’ve been busy with some upcoming reviews. Next up will probably be the Fuji XF 16-55mm lens review, and I am also currently testing the new Sony RX100 V. This little point and shoot is awesome :). Thanks for stopping by!
Amazing specs. Can’t wait to see what you can do with it!
Thanks inthedarkroom!
Best,

The SL is an amazing camera. I love mine. I will be interested in what you have to say about it.
Thanks Chris!
I’ll try my best to write up a review soon! Btw, great site. I love your landscape shots!
Best,
Patrick
Hello Patrick,
Congratulations on this momentous decision. Based on all that I read, you won’t be disappointed. And just put more soy sauce on the ramen & you’ll get used to the diet. Looking forward to the upcoming reviews. Cheers
Jed
Thanks Jed!
At this point soy sauce is a luxury haha :)!
Best,

Oh boy 🙂 I totally get it. This camera is awesome. Congratulations.
Nothing better than Leica rendering imho. I am not a fan of the hughe lenses, but if they are made to be the best, they have some size and weight. But you still have the option to go either small with the M lenses or take the advantage of the AF system when you need it. So that makes sense to me.
Only downside i see is, that i personally prefer the rangefinder experience. The way you frame your images is so different in a positive way. Anyhow, i cant wait to read about your experiences with the kit and see some more images of NYC. I am a hughe fan of the city and it never gets boring the see new content no matter how you think of it 😉
Thanks Elderin!
Hopefully, I can get out with this new kit soon, and take those city pictures that you like haha. I haven’t had much time to use my new camera. I used the loaner a lot more than the one I actually bought :). As for the rangefinder, well…I figured that I always have my M6 or M3. I’m just finding out that where my photography is going at this point, it requires more precision than the OVF in a rangefinder. What would be ideal is to have both but I think at this point, I would rather use the money to buy another lens for my SL. As for size, like you said, if it is made to be the best, they will have some size and weight. I knew this getting into it, and you know what? I got used to it quicker than I thought. Plus, I’ll probably have stronger arms buy the end of the winter haha :).
Best,
Patrick
