Sigma 90mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens Review:
If you were one of the early adopters of L mount like I was, it just wasn’t easy finding lenses that were compact and light. A lot of manufacturers were busy releasing reference level glass with large maximum apertures that were excellent but also big and heavy. If you wanted something more compact, often times, you had to sacrifice autofocus and use an adapter for M mount lenses, for instance. Well, things have definitely changed quite a bit. Take, for instance, Sigma’s I Series lenses. Their maximum apertures are a little smaller but they are also much more compact and light. Furthermore, I’ve tested every one so far, and I can tell you that from my experience, these lenses offer excellent performance as well. Now, they’ve added another one that I think is MUCH needed in the L Mount Alliance, the 90mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens, and it (along with the new 24mm f2 DG DN: review here) has been released today. Thanks to Sigma, I was able to test this lens beforehand, and here’s my full review. [continue reading…]

Panasonic Lumix S 24mm f1.8 Lens Pre-Order Available:
Speaking as an L mount user, I’m very happy to see more and more lenses coming out for the system. For instance, the Panasonic Lumix S 24mm f1.8 lens is now available for pre-order, and it looks like a lens that will be quite tempting for some. It’s a nice size, and with a larger aperture, this lens should be quite versatile. I imagine this will make a great addition to many photographers. The link is below:

Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens Review:
If you have an APS-C L mount camera, such as, the Leica CL, and you’re looking for a normal lens that’s around a 50mm equivalent focal length, there are quite a few to choose from. However, if you want one with autofocus that is also compact, the options shrink a bit. One option that you can choose though is the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens. This 45mm equivalent lens has been around in different mounts, and now it’s also in L mount as well. I had a chance to review this lens along with the two other APS-C lenses currently out, which are the 16mm f1.4 (review here) and the 56mm f1.4 (review here). I wrote up a review for each of the other two a while back but for some reason, I never got around to finishing up the review for the 30mm f1.4. So, here’s what I think of the 30mm. Fujifilm XF 50mm f1.0 R WR Lens Review:
If you love bokeh and ultra shallow depth of field photos, there are quite a few good lenses to choose from, if you’re a Fujifilm X Series user. There are third party lenses as well as Fuji native lenses. Speaking of, there’s a new one that’s been added to the Fujifilm catalogue: the XF 50mm f1.0 R WR lens. It’s definitely one of Fujifilm’s flagship lenses, and it’s also the world’s first autofocus f1.0 lens made for mirrorless whether cropped sensor or full frame. I had one on loan to test, and this is what I thought of it. [continue reading…]
Bronx Zoo: Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3 OS Sports Lens:
Hey everyone. So, as some of you know, I was lucky enough to get a chance to test the Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3 Sports for L mount, so I could write a review for it to be posted on its release date. As I said in my full review (can be found here), I know the L mount system consists of Panasonic, and Sigma in addition to Leica but speaking as a Leica SL2 shooter, it’s just great to have a lens of this focal length range for a Leica camera :). Back in my M days, you would never see a lens like this for obvious reasons. But now that there’s the SL system, there’s no reason why us SL shooters shouldn’t be able to use a lens like this one.
