Fujifilm XF 18mm f1.4 R LM WR Lens Review:
While the 28mm is probably my least favorite focal length ;), it is definitely a very popular one. The focal length is quite versatile, and therefore, can be used for all types of photography ranging from street, cityscape, landscape to even environmental portraiture. For a while now, if you wanted to purchase a Fujifilm branded 28mm equivalent (well, the 18mm equates to exactly a 27mm), there was only the XF 18mm f2. Now, there’s the new XF 18mm f1.4 R LM WR lens, which is what I was able to test. Here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
Viltrox 33mm f1.4 XF Lens V2 Review Fujifilm X Mount:
If you’re looking for more budget friendly glass, there are actually quite a lot of options these days. For instance, Viltrox has been releasing some decent lenses at a lower price point lately, and one that I’ve been testing is the 33mm f1.4 XF lens V2 for the Fujifilm X Series system. With an asking price of just $279, it’s not only quite a lot cheaper than Fujifilm’s own 35mm f1.4 lens, it’s also cheaper than Fujifilm’s f2 version by more than $100. As some of you know, the 50mm (or 50mm equivalent) is my focal length of choice, so I was definitely intrigued. I decided to give it a try, and here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
Viltrox 23mm f1.4 XF Lens V2 Review Fujifilm X Mount:
Viltrox has been releasing some decent lenses at a lower price for quite some time, and one particular lens that has caught my eye is the 23mm f1.4 XF lens V2. Fujifilm’s own XF 23mm f1.4 is a fantastic piece of glass but it retails for $899 where as the Viltrox version is only $329. That’s a huge difference; in fact, that’s even cheaper than the Fuji XF 23mm f2, which currently retails for $449. So, I decided to see if I could get a Viltrox 23mm on loan, and test it out for myself. I wanted to see how it would measure up. After about a month, this is what I think of it. [continue reading…]
Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Review:
If you’re an L mount shooter, there just aren’t many long telephoto lenses out there yet. This especially goes for Leica users. I’ve been using Leica cameras for my entire life, and like most, I was an M user. There aren’t many options in the long telephoto range, which makes sense given an M is a rangefinder. Now, I’m in the SL system, and I’d love to be able to try more longer telephoto lenses. So, I was very excited when I heard news Sigma was coming out with the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports lens for L mount. I rarely get to use these kinds of focal lengths, and I think it would be such a great addition to the L Mount Alliance. The lens would help make it an even more versatile system. So, thanks to the fine folks at Sigma, I was able to test this lens out before it was officially released to see what it was really all about. Here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
Sigma fp L Camera Review: Photographer’s Point of View
A while back, Sigma released their first L mount camera, which was the fp. I reviewed it (review here), and thought it had a lot to offer, especially it being so compact. Recently, Sigma released another model: the fp L. There are some changes but one main difference is that the fp L comes with a 61 megapixel sensor. Being that I’m an L mount user, and I just love cool gear in general, I knew I had to get my hands on this just to see what it was all about. Before I begin, I know that in addition to photography, this camera is also marketed towards videographers. Keep in mind that this review is primarily through a photographer’s perspective. Here’s what I think of it. [continue reading…]
