Shots of New York City

Coney Island Beach on a Very Cold Winter Day

Coney Island on a Cold Winter Day:

I was cleaning out my back up hard drives, and found this photo that I shot at Coney Island with my Leica M9 and 35 Summicron Version 4 or as some may affectionately call it, “King of Bokeh”.  Regrettably, there’s none of that famous bokeh since I believe that this photo was shot at F16.  All you get is tack sharpness :).  Simple adjustments were done in Adobe Camera Raw, and then I used Nik Software Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert it to black and white.  A lot of detail from a lens that’s 20 to 30 years old…One more reason to by a Leica M9: You can use lenses that are decades old with very satisfying results. A Very Old Chevy Pickup Found in Brooklyn

An Old Chevy Pickup in Brooklyn:

Wow, temperatures today in New York City were 71 degrees today!  Crazy considering it was 25 degrees on Tuesday morning.  Anyway, check out what I saw: you never see these often…well at least not in Brooklyn.  I was walking around my neighborhood, and saw this old Chevy pickup truck parked near a local park.  If they made new Chevy trucks as attractive as this old one, I might consider changing my car :).  I shot these photos with my Leica M9 and 50 Summilux ASPH all at F1.4.  Two were shot at ISO 640 and one was shot at ISO 800.  I used Nik Software Silver Efex Pro 2 to give it that vintage sepia look. Maneki Neko Meets Leica:

Maneki Neko (“Beckoning Cat”) also known as Lucky Cat is a Japanese sculture traditionally believed to bring good luck to its owner.  You usually find these cats at the entrances of shops, restaurants, and other businesses.  This one was found in the Flushing, Queens Chinatown.  The Lucky Cat is frequently mistaken for Chinese in origin because they are very popular in Chinese communities but they are most definitely of Japanese origin.  I shot this with my favorite combo: the Leica M9 and 50 Summilux ASPH.  I thought it was kind of cool to shoot this cat wide open with the gate in front of it, and then convert it to black and white.  Here is the color version to compare: [continue reading…]

Busy Weekend But Looking Forward to Shooting With My Leica M9 Again:

I hope everyone had a good weekend.  I had a very busy but productive one.  I’ve been working on some wedding photos that I will post up soon.  I should’ve had these done a while ago but I just got too busy.  They were all shot with the Leica M9, and only one lens: the 50 Summilux ASPH.  The lux not only produces breathtaking images, it is also a very versatile lens.  Since I was busy for the whole weekend, I didn’t get much of a chance to go out and take any pics but I will leave you all with the photo in this post. Leica M9 Woes And Sunset in New York City

Leica M9 Woes And Sunset in New York City:

It’s one of those weeks…I’ve been out taking photos all over the New York City but nothing really interests me.  I think I need a change of scenery.  Maybe somewhere a bit more sunny, and little more friendly :).  Plus, I’ve been making so many mistakes…stupid mistakes.  For instance, I deleted four potential photos off my Leica M9 by accident.  How is it that I delete the only images that I like?  I got into this stupid habit of deleting images while I’m walking when I should really be going home, and checking them on the computer before I delete them.  I’ve been missing shots lately as well.  I hate when I’m walking on the street, and I see the potential of a great photo opportunity only AFTER I walk right past it.
