Received My Fuji X-E2 Today: Review Coming Soon:

Hey everyone!  I hope all of you are enjoying the holiday season.  I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I was going to review the Fuji X-E2 but it took me a while…mainly because I wasn’t sure if I was going to buy it or borrow one.  I love my X-E1, and I am very happy with the results from it, so I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend the extra money to buy a new body.  Well, I finally decided to buy it :).  It turns out that my good friend has been eyeing my X-E1 for a while, and offered to buy it from me, so it was pretty easy to sell it.

I ordered the X-E2 from Bergen County Camera yesterday and it arrived today!  Unfortunately I don’t have any time to shoot with it until this weekend.  But I did play around with it, and so far, here are just a few improvements that I noticed right away.  First off, the exposure compensation dial is tighter, which is great because I’ve been complaining about how easy it was to accidentally move it since the X100.  The new exposure compensation dial also has a range of ±3.0EV vs. the X-E1’s ±2.0EV.

Also, I realize that a lot of people are definitely excited for the autofocus improvements but it’s also worth mentioning that focusing manual lenses is quite easy on the X-E2.  The focus peaking intensity can be adjusted (which has been added to the X-E1, thanks to the latest firmware), and there’s also the new digital split image to help with focus.  In fact, ever since focus peaking was introduced to the X-E1, I’ve been experimenting with my Leica lenses, and I really like the results; both the image quality and the ease of use.  With the ability to dial up the focus peaking intensity and the digital split image, I will definitely be using my Leica lenses a lot more with the Fuji, so expect a lot of that here in the coming weeks.

Then there are other little things like the bigger screen, etc. but I’ll talk more about the improvements later in my review of the Fuji X-E2, and in a comparison post I plan on writing between the X-E1 and the X-E2.  I’ll also see if I can get my hands on the new Olympus OM-D E-M1, and maybe do some sort of comparison with the X-E2.

Have a great weekend, everyone!  I’ll have more from the X-E2, and my review will be coming soon.  Btw, if you haven’t seen it yet, I have a new Google+ account where you can join me if you don’t use Facebook or Twitter.  Take care!

    Hi Patrick,

Your GAS makes it possible to read some good reviews about new gear which i always appreciate 🙂

Hope You have fun with your new toy. I am looking forward to read what you think about the x-e2. Especially if it is worth the upgrade from an e-1.

For now i just hope You have a great start in 2014. All the best.

      Hi Elderin,

Sorry for the late reply! I still have some family visiting for the holidays and I’ve been the designated tour guide.

Thank you! I really appreciate you coming by to check out my site! I really means a lot. It’s also always great to converse with you. While I wish I owned all of this stuff, most are either on loan or borrowed lol :). But I definitely have GAS ;).

Thanks for the well wishes with my X-E2! For a while, I wasn’t sure if upgrading from my X-E1 was worth it. The X-E1 is a great camera, and the firmware updates only make it better. I know the X-E2 is a better camera but by how much? I think what really finally pushed me to get the X-E2 was a combination of curiosity and luck; I was lucky that someone wanted to buy my X-E1 right then and there, which made it almost a sign that maybe I could satisfy my curiosity by purchasing the X-E2 :).

So, I will definitely bring up the X-E1 in my X-E2 review for those who are not sure whether or not they should upgrade. I’ve had my X-E2 for about a week, and so far, I am loving it. The camera overall feels faster, and I’ve actually been using my M mount lenses more with it because of the split screen and the ability to “intensify” the focus peaking (X-E1 has this now too thanks to the new firmware). But I’ve been busy with family, so I haven’t really had full days of shooting with it yet.

I’ll try to post my review soon, and I wish you and your family a great 2014!

      Take care!

    Hi Patrick,

First of all, Happy New Year! I’m very happy to hear that you finally pulled the trigger and got the XE2. I also just got mine a few days before I went on a Christmas Holiday and I’m so glad that I brought it with me. For me focus is faster on the XE2. Looking forward to reading your review.

    Best,
    Kerwin

      Hey Kerwin,

Happy New Year to you as well! Yeah…it took me a while but I finally pulled the trigger and bought the X-E2. I haven’t used it as much as I would like yet because I have family over but so far, it’s a nice camera. The only thing is, I don’t feel like I own a new camera because it’s so similar to my X-E1 lol. I’ll definitely be posting my review very soon…I’ll have nothing but free time in a couple of days, and I plan on doing nothing but shooting :).

      All the best!

      Patrick

      Hi Christian,

Great to hear from you again, and I hope you’re having a good start to the New Year! Sorry for the late response; I got sick and then I hurt my back, so I’ve been busy playing catch up with everything. My X-E2 review is the first on my list of things to get done :). Sorry it has taken me so long!

      Take care!

    Hi Patrick,

I have a Fujifilm X-E2. I mainly pair it with my XF23 F1.4. Focusing Manually with this lens is sheer pleasure. I can’t wait to hear your review when paired it with the Leica 35 Cron, which i’m looking to acquire one.

    Thank you.

      Hi Bernard,

Sorry for the very late reply! I was away and the internet service wasn’t so great.

Thanks, I will definitely post something up with the Cron soon. I might even post something with the 75mm Summilux/X-E2 combo if you’re interested. Btw, the XF 23mm is a fantastic piece of glass. I definitely miss shooting with it.

      Best regards,

      Patrick
