Fuji XF 35mm F2 R WR Lens Review Coming Soon

Fuji XF 35mm F2 R WR Lens Review Coming Soon:

Sometimes I hate when I get new gear in my hands because I end up wanting to buy it :).  I’m currently shooting with the new Fuji XF 35mm F2 R WR lens, and it’s better than I expected.  When I first received it, I was actually quite surprised by it.  I say this because in photos I saw of this lens, it didn’t really look that much more compact than the F1.4 version by Fuji.  But in my actual hands, it’s a different story.  It not only is more compact, it feels noticeably less bulky than the F1.4 version.  Pictures really don’t do it justice in my opinion.

The XF 35mm F2 is essentially the size of my chrome 50mm Summicron and in many ways, at least to me, it kind of resembles my older 50mm Summicron, which is one of my favorite lens designs.  In addition to its size, the XF 35mm F2 is actually a well built lens.  Aperture ring is tight, focus is quiet and fast, and it doesn’t have the hollow feel of my XF 35mm F1.4.  Unlike a lot of the lens hoods that have come with recent Fuji lenses, I feel that the one that is included with the XF 35mm F2 is actually a great match for it.  As most of you know, it’s also weather sealed, and all of this costs around $400, which so far, doesn’t seem like a bad deal at all.

I will be posting a review soon of the XF 35mm F2, and most likely a comparison between this lens and the XF 35mm F1.4.  Sorry I don’t have any photos today from this lens but I will most likely post some tomorrow.  Thanks for stopping by!

    Hey Pat

A few days ago, I replied to a commenter on my site about his positive experiences with the 35mm f2. One of the things I said about the new lens is how it reminded me of the older Summicron barrel designs!

Yes, I think Fuji is channeling Dr. Mandler from Midland, Ontario 🙂 Not a bad thing at all, as those Mandler era Leitz lenses are compact and my personal favourites for looks!

    Best regards, Marco

      Hi Marco!

I really love the size and shape of this lens. My wish is if Fuji would make a 23mm F2 lens. Optically, the XF 23mm F1.4 is fantastic but it would be nice if Fuji could make a 35mm eq. similar in size and shape to a 35mm Summicron :).

      Take care,

      Patrick

I really love compact lenses on a compact camera. This one seems to be a perfect match to all Fuji X camera bodies if the IQ is great. That will reveal your upcoming review 😉

      Hi Elderin,

So do I! I’m thinking this lens would be a great match with something like the XF 18mm.

      Best regards,

      Patrick
