Leica CL: A Few Out of Camera BW Jpegs

Leica CL: A Few Out of Camera BW Jpegs:

Hey everyone, so I think my next Leica CL post will be the review but I was just messing around with the settings the other day, and decided to try the high contrast black and white jpeg mode.  I don’t normally shoot jpegs as I prefer RAW files but for fun, I decided to try it out.  It turns out that I like this setting a lot; I can see myself using this setting for when I don’t have time to do much processing.

As for the lens I was using, it was the 18mm Elmarit-TL f2.8 ASPH.  Honestly, this lens has been mounted on the CL for most of the time that I’ve had it, and that’s surprising because as I said many time before, the 28mm isn’t my favorite focal length, which the Elmarit basically equates too.  At f2.8, there isn’t much bokeh as well but it’s a great match with the CL.  It’s a great match not only in terms of size but also in weight.  The camera feels really balanced.  Plus, it’s been very good to me optically.  I have a bunch of M lenses, and I also have the M adapter, which I occasionally use with my SL but I found myself always going back to this tiny Elmarit.

So again, these are just straight out of the camera jpegs with no post processing on my part.  Thanks for stopping by!

Like them much better than most other images shown here.i dont like contrast being pushed too hard wether it may be color or bw. but that is just me 🙂 but i am still a fan of your reviews. and i am still awaiting the SL review. you are really late with that 🙂 or did i just miss it ? anyway, maybe you decided to cancel that.

      Thanks Elderin!

As for the SL review, it’ll come :). It’s a longterm review, so I haven’t had a chance to finish it. Since the new Summicron-SL lenses are coming out, I will be reviewing the 90mm APO first though. I bought one, so from what I hear, mine will most likely come around the end of the month. Thanks for stopping by!

      Hi Dawid,

I will most definitely post an SL review soon. It’s a longterm review, so it’ll be long. I haven’t had a chance to finish it yet. I will be posting a review of the 90mm APO SL lens first though, since it is brand new. Thanks for stopping by!

Am I the only person who cannot get the jpegs to look anything other than awful form the CL camera – compared to the jpegs from my M9P that are a real drag. I use the Summarit 35 f2.4 on both!

      Hi Tony,

Apologies for the late reply! Sorry to hear about your bad experiences with the jpegs from the CL. It’s been a while since I’ve used it (the one here was only a loaner for review purposes), so other than the shots I took while I was reviewing it, I don’t have any new ones. From what I recall, my jpegs weren’t awful but I think cameras like the Fuji stuff tend to make better out of camera jpegs.

      Best,

      Patrick
