Nikon Z50: Photos Around New York City

Nikon Z50: Photos Around New York City:

I hope all of you have been enjoying the holiday season. I had family over (I’m sure many of you did as well), so I’ve been pretty busy keeping them entertained.  I also ended up hurting my back moving furniture around, so I was basically out of commission for a long time, which is why today’s post will be a shorter one.  I still have the Nikon Z50 in my hands, and I thought I’d just share a few images with you of NYC that I took with it.

I posted a first impressions of the Nikon Z50 earlier last month but at the time, I only included the basic (not the fine quality) out of camera jpegs.  I thought the out of camera jpegs were excellent, which is why I posted them.  This time around, I’m posting pics I processed through Camera Raw in Photoshop CC.  The shots are from several different areas in the city.  I’ve been walking around with the Z50 quite a bit.  I probably should’ve included more festive photos given the holiday season but I generally try to avoid big crowds in NYC lol.  I did venture up to Rockefeller Center to see the tree and the lights but I didn’t stay too long.

↑ Nikon Z50 with the 16-50mm f3.5-6.3-VR lens.

↑ This was taken with the 50-250mm f4.5-6.3 VR lens set at 250mm f8 with 360 ISO.

↑ This was also taken with the 50-250mm set at 70mm f8 with 125 ISO.

So, I have to tell you all something: I’m actually enjoying the Z50 quite a bit.  I wasn’t sure what to really expect but I really like this camera.  The files that come out of the Nikon Z50 are great; I also love the ergonomics (seriously excellent ergonomics), and the camera overall feels quick.  There is serious potential here.  I think Nikon just needs to get those lenses out soon.

↑ This was taken with the 16-50mm f3.5-6.3-VR lens at 11400 ISO and 1/250s.  The lens was set at f4.5 and 16mm.

↑ Here’s another taken with the 16-50mm f3.5-6.3-VR lens at 33mm, f8.  The camera was set at 400 ISO and 1/250s.

↑ This last shot was also taken with the 16-50mm f3.5-6.3-VR lens using 400 ISO, 1/400s.  The lens was set at f8 and 34mm.

Anyway, stay tuned for the review because it’s coming soon. I’m hoping to get it posted this coming week, if my back feels a bit better.  I also have the Mitakon Speedmaster 25mm f/0.95 lens on loan, so expect that review, and of course, the Leica SL2, which I own.  I’ll definitely be reviewing that.  For Fujifilm fans, I’m probably getting a couple of items, and I’m sure many of you can guess at least one of them ;).  Lastly, I start up my weekly portrait posts again.  Thanks for stopping by, and I hope all of you are enjoying the holiday season!

Hey Patrick, hope your back feels better soon. Try doing yoga Sphinx pose , and relaxing your back into it for half a minutes 3-4 times a day. It will help. I like the colours in the pictures here and yes the lenses are lacking. The handling is superb, dare I say ergonomics is better than the xt3 and I’m tempted…

      Hi Mahesh,

Thanks for the advice! I’ll give it a try once I get a little better. Right now, it’s difficult to sit or stand lol.

Yeah it’s funny you mentioned the ergonomics maybe being better than the X-T3 because that’s actually what I wrote in my review haha. I’ve actually really enjoyed this camera, and I’m tempted. There are definite pluses for the Fuji system, of course…one being a great choice of lenses but there’s a lot going for the Z50 as well. Hopefully, Nikon gets some lenses out soon :). I hope you had a good holiday season, Mahesh! Thanks for stopping by!

      Best,

      Patrick

I’m this close to buying but lack of apsc lenses is holding me back. Have you tried Fuji xa7 by the way? Ergonomics are of course not as great and there is no VF but the sensor produces good colours and the big screen at the back is a treat. I played around briefly last weekend. The focus speed has improved a lot over xa5.

I haven’t yet but maybe I’ll see if I can get one in to review. I’ve been so busy; I’ve been behind in my Fuji reviews. I’m hoping to get an X-Pro3 in soon along with the XF 16-80mm. Still haven’t tried that lens yet.

I just sent back the Nikon today. I’m almost done with the review. I hope they produce new lenses soon. It’s a great camera. I’m glad you can use F mount lenses but a lot of them would be so huge on that body lol.
