Leica M Typ 240 Firmware Update Version 2.0.0.11:

Hey everyone!  Sorry for the lack of posts lately.  I recently overexerted myself and hurt my back when I went fishing.  Fishing, out of all the things in the world…but it wasn’t really the fishing.  It was rowing the boat through most of the reservoir where I fish :).  Anyway, there is a new firmware update for those who own the Leica M Typ 240.  According to Leica, firmware version 2.0.0.11 will help with: [continue reading…]

Ilford Lab USA Now Open For Business:

Hey everyone!  I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.  I saw something a few days ago that really piqued my interest.  It turns out that HARMAN technology, the company behind Ilford black and white films, has opened a photographic lab in the US.  They established a lab in the UK a few years ago but I guess they finally decided to move operations here as well, which is great. End of Summer Days…What’s Next (Fuji, Leica Stuff):

Happy Friday, everyone!  Sorry for the lack of posts, I’ve been quite busy, and the days that I’ve been free, I’ve been trying to enjoy the rest of the summer before it ends.  I do prefer colder weather in general (unless I’m on a beautiful island like Bermuda) but the weather here in New York City has been great.  It’s almost like being in Fall.  I’ve been fishing, catching up with some old friends, and walking a lot in the city.  The photo above was taken on one of my walks on the High Line in Chelsea.  I used my Leica M, and my newly acquired 18mm Super Elmar to take the photo. But back to business.

Recently, I’ve been using my 75 Summilux a lot more.  I don’t know, it’s just been a lens I’ve been basically falling in love with all over again.  It has a classic look to it, and it has amazing bokeh.  It’s also been a lot easier to focus now since I bought the Leica EVF2.  The M 240 and 75 Lux is also just a great combo.  I love being able to use some of these classic lenses on new Leica digitals.

I also have some stuff for the Fuji crowd that I’m planning on posting.  I’ll be getting my hands on a Fuji X-M1 with the XC 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OIS lens to review.  I’m kind of looking forward to it…not to thrilled that it doesn’t have a viewfinder but from the pictures, the size of the camera looks great.  However, sometimes there are some decent deals on the Fuji X-E1 (right now, priced at $799), which makes it hard to decide which camera to get.  Since the X-E1 and X-Pro1 have focus peaking now thanks to the latest firmware update, I’m also trying out a few Leica lenses on the Fuji cameras, and I’ll be writing up something for that as well.  I’ve even used my 75 Summilux on it with great results.

So, I hope you all enjoy the weekend.  I’m always a little sad when the summer is about to end.  I think I feel this way because I use to have to go back to school ;).  Thanks for stopping by!

New Firmware For The Fuji X-Pro1 And X-E1 With Focus Peaking!

Fuji X-E1 and X-Pro1 Focus Peaking

The New Firmware For The Fuji X-Pro1 And X-E1 With Focus Peaking!:

Hey everyone.  I’m sure most of you have heard that there is new firmware for the Fuji X-Pro1 (Ver. 3.00) and X-E1 (Ver. 2.00), and I’m sure many of you know the benefits of this new firmware.  If not, here are some of the details:

  1. Improvement of AF speed on all existing XF lenses.
  2. Improvement in ‘Checking Focus’ operation.
  3. FOCUS PEAK HIGHLIGHT for manual focus.

I am definitely excited about this new firmware because in my opinion, this is one of the most worth while firmware upgrades from any manufacturer.  Adding focus peaking is better than just updating the algorithms or doing whatever minor improvements they usually do.  It’s essentially adding a new feature to the camera, which btw, is a very useful one.  Focus peaking is one of those features that many Fuji owners have been wishing for, and we finally get it in the X-Pro1 and the X-E1.

I’ve been using the focus peaking on my Leica M 240, and it’s been great, especially for those longer focal lengths.  I think the focus peaking feature is going to finally make full use of the Fuji M Adapter.  I bought the M adapter quite a while ago but to be honest, I haven’t used it much, which is why I haven’t reviewed it yet.  Sometimes it’s hard to focus with a large aperture setting.  With the focus peaking, it should be a lot easier!  I will definitely be shooting more with my M lenses on the Fuji cameras and I’ll post a review of the M adapter along with the focus peaking very soon, so stay tuned for that!

As of now, if you haven’t already, you should download the new firmware for the X-Pro1 or the X-E1.  Here are the links:

Fuji X-E1 Version 2.00

Again, I will post a review of the M adapter on the Fuji with focus peaking soon but before that, I will be posting my comparison between the Zeiss Touit 32mm F3.2 and the Fuji XF 35mm.  Stay tuned!

Leica 18mm Super Elmar F3.8, More Fuji Stuff on The Way:

Hey everyone!  It’s been incredibly hot here in New York City!  But this heat wave should end in a couple of days, which is perfect timing because I just received my Leica 18mm Super Elmar F3.8 from Bergen County Camera yesterday!  I’ve been eyeing this lens for quite some time (actually since my M9 days), and after my time with the Zeiss Touit 12mm, I realized even more that I really wanted an ultra wide angle in my camera kit, so I decided to go for it.
